Bake Sale Planning

Happy Monday everyone!!

Tomorrow we will discuss things more in depth but for now I would like to post a quick update while my brain is on the topic - otherwise I will later lose my mind and not know what to do with myself. It's that kind of day. So.

Hannah and I took a quick trip to Nelson Market on South Green and picked up four boxes of cake mix. Two boxes of yellow and two boxes of devil's food. That makes about 100 cupcakes (assuming to boxes make 24 cupcakes each). I have been digging through Pinterest to find other recipes to try out - and goodness, was that a mistake. There are so many cupcakes on Pinterest.

I have plans to go to Kroger and/or Walmart later this week and pick up Angel Food cake mix, whipped cream, and chocolate, then close to the 11th I will pick up a batch of strawberries that can be chopped up and placed on top. Those should be a popular fix!

If anyone is wanting to help by donating food items or baking items like sugar, eggs, etc. to help out with the cause, they would be greatly appreciated - just send me a message on Facebook or ask a member of club for my personal contact information and contact me that way. We can work something out!

And finally, Walter has given us the OK to use his kitchen as our own personal bakery so I was hoping to do some baking on Thursday and Friday the 9th and 10th, and then we can do the full on bake sale Saturday, the 11th.

See everyone tomorrow!

Fundraising Part 2

Hello all! I hope everyone is having a much better week than I am! Tuesday we discussed one major thing and that was fundraising. Since we seem to be making more and more trips out of town (this semester we even went out of state!) we have discussed and are working to set up a second bake sale this year.

The weekend of April 11 is Mom's weekend. Considering the weekend is an OU student favorite we believe that having a bake sale should be a great idea to raise a decent amount of money! So if you have extra flex points leftover at the end of the next few weeks and want to help out, donations of cake mix, cookie dough, frosting and any other item that can help with baked goods would be much appreciated.

The initial baking will take place either Thursday or Friday the day before we all set up shop and begin selling our baked goods. I have already requested using my boyfriend - Walter's - kitchen to bake items and he has given us the thumbs up. So all who wish to help bake items are welcome to come out to his place with me and bake some lovely items.

I can supply a table and potentially a tent depending on where we decide to set up shop. Since we plan to work on a Saturday (which is the 11 of April) it may be possible we can set up a table right outside the back door at my work (College Book Store). When all the details have been set up, an update will be posted here to the blog and on the Facebook!

Cheers!

Board Election Results: 2015-2016

Greetings everyone! As of yesterday (well, close to 16 hours ago) the club held the board elections for the 2015-2016 school year. Some of the votes were close but the results are in.

Next year, the board will look like this:
President: Maddie Stricklin
Vice President: Tristan Wayne
Treasurer: Halee Smith
Scribe: Ali Smith
Webmaster: Hannah Yinger

I look forward to having a fun year as President next year. Next month I will pass on the Scribe/PR torch to Ali and show her the ropes of updating you all on our actions!

Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday (especially if you're like me and you've had only about 12 hours of sleep over the course of the last 3 days)!

Restaurant Trip Update

Hello everyone!

As previous updates have explained, on November 22 we will be making a trip to Columbus to eat at Sushiko. Our reservation is for 26 people at 12:30 pm.

On Facebook, we have a document that will allow you to put yourself in a car for the trip. Departure times will depend on the driver of said vehicle. If you do not put yourself in a car then you will not be given a ride - it is your responsibility.

On that note. I have contacted the manager of the restaurant personally and we have discussed the terms of having a large group in his establishment. He has asked that we pay by table and not per person - this is simply a convenience factor for their business. So I ask that everyone bring cash to pay for their meals or work out payment with those you plan on sitting with (someone pays with their card and others pay said person back, etc. This entirely depends on the people you will be sitting with).

And secondly, the manager has also given me his personal email and has requested we send in everyone's orders to him the day before so they can prepare things shortly before everyone's arrival. I will open up a document on the facebook for everyone to access and record their required amount of raw fish and tempura and soup.

I can't wait for the day to get here when we get together! See everyone soon!

Restaurant Trip, T-shirts and Halloween.

Good afternoon my friendly geeks, gamers and otakus.

Yesterday we had a small and quick meeting and the updates - much as the title explains - are few, but important.

Restaurant Trip

We will be heading to Sushiko in Columbus, OH on November 22 for lunch. This is a Saturday and it is the weekend before Thanksgiving Break with Ohio University. If you have an interest in going with us, we ask that you fill out your information on the Google Doc that was shared on the Facebook Page (just search JMAGE and you'll find us) by November 4. I will be making the reservation the day after so exceptions will not be made.

Due to the large amount of people going, we are working out the driving situation. When we have everything worked out, we will send out an update.

Club T-Shirts

Another Google Doc will be made for people to put down their names and shirt sizes if people want a club T-shirt. The image that we use as our profile photo on Google+ is the image that will appear on the shirt - and of course, the shirts will be green.

If 30+ people want a T-shirt, they will run $10 a person. If 42 (I'm about 75% sure of that number, ask Jimmy for a better idea) people sign up we get cheaper shirts.

Halloween

Yes, it's October. Yes, it is Pumpkin-spice-you-name-it-we-make-it season too. And YES. We will be having a small Halloween get together. On November 1, we will reserve a room where we can congregate (most likely in Morton, but I have to see what is available before I give an exact location) and carve pumpkins, play some horror games and maybe watch a movie. Also: bring cosplay! Dress up! There is a high possibility some club alumnus will be attending and they take professional photos, so if you want some [free] photography of your cosplay, now is the time to get it!

Later this month we will nominate some movies and decide what will be watched. We will also decide how many hours we want to make this (the original plan is to hang out for 3, maybe 4, hours) and have a location for this get together.

See everyone tomorrow at the showing!

Room Update: Friday Showings

Hello my fellow anime watchers and game players!

With one of two projectors in the 201 Morton room being out we talked to Chubb Hall and managed to get room 237 Morton. Hoping everything in this room works to our specifications.

We will place a note on the doors of 201 as a reminder of this change.

Thank you and see you all tomorrow!!

An Update about the Grab Bag Showing.

Hello everyone! Sorry for the double update today. We have encountered a slightly error in the Grab Bag list.

Unfortunately, Saint Young Men does not have an anime series. So it must be struck from the Grab Bag title list.

To replace it is the next thing on the list. With a total of 17 votes, Samurai Flamenco will be added into the empty slot to put us back at 11 for the Friday Showing.

Sorry for the inconvenience and enjoy the rest of your afternoon!

- Maddie Stricklin
Public Relations Officer 2014-2015

Welcome to JMAGE! (Meeting 1 details)

Greetings my fellow anime lovers, manga readers and gamers alike! This is your PR Officer, Maddie. For those of you who are new, I do keep updated notes here on the blog after every Tuesday meeting and keep an updated list of the episode count every Friday. So if you missed a meeting, this is where you will find all of our minutes.

Starting off, JMAGE is happy to announce we welcomed over 50 members yesterday at our first meeting of the Semester. As claimed, this turn out of students is better than the turn out we had last year! Every one mingled and had an enjoyable time before the meeting.

Our officers were introduced to the crowd and the unveiling of the numerous events we attend and supply. This year we will be attending Ohayocon in Columbus, Ohio, and attempting to attend Katsucon in Washington D.C., Maryland. The deadlines for both are in October - Ohayocon is $40 for registration and $60 (of $65 depending on the Hyatt's fees this year) and Katsucon is $50 for registration and is $140 for hotel fees. If you wish to attend these your membership fee of $20 must be paid prior to or at the time of registration/hotel payments. This membership fee will pay for the gas your driver will use to take you to said conventions.

Finally, all members in attendance at the Tuesday meeting were given the chance to vote on a collection of 35 different titles of anime to elect 11 to be thrown into the Grab Bag Showing we will have this Friday. In order, those titles are as follows...

  • With 44 votes: Bobo-bo Bo Bo-bobo
  • With 43 votes: Saint Young Men
  • With 34 votes: Panty & Stocking with Garter Belt
  • With 29 votes: Code Geass
  • With 29 votes: Psycho Pass
  • With 25 votes: Cowboy Bebop
  • With 23 votes: Noragami
  • With 23 votes: Squid Girl
  • With 20 votes: Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei
  • With 19 votes: Sakurasou no Pet no Kanojo [Pet Girl]
  • With 19 votes: DuRaRaRa!
This Friday - the 29th - we will watch an episode (most likely the first of the series) from each of these 11 anime choices and members who attend the showing will be given the ability to vote on these titles using our 3-2-1 point system. Remember that one must show up to Morton 201 to be able to vote.

At Roundtable...

Gary Grant discussed Dagorhir and Humans vs. Zombies during roundtable. If you are interested in either of these things, contact him through Facebook or find him at a club event and he will gladly talk to you about these events happening around Athens.

Alex Schmitz - a member of TechHeads here at Ohio University - runs an Anime Podcast and has offered a possible chance of joining him and the TH group to do writing and podcast and such if interested. He, too, can be contacted on Facebook or at club events.

Kyle Driscoll runs a DnD (Dungeons and Dragons) club this year and has offered the ability to join the club. He attends many of our events and can be contacted that way and also through Facebook.

Enjoy your first week with Ohio University and we hope to see everyone in Morton Hall this Friday!

About the Meeting Tomorrow [April 1st]

In case any one has not read the email sent out or missed the Facebook post from the President herself, there will be no club meeting tomorrow due to lack of things that need discussing this week.

Meetings will continue as the normally would next week to discuss the club Saturday Picnic and the Finals Week plans for the study rooms.

Hope you all have a good Monday and enjoy the nice weather we're having.

Update from the Tuesday Meeting

If you missed the meeting Tuesday here's a quick update one what we discussed.

The picnic/Saturday Social is set for April 12th at the moment, starting at 5 PM. It will be potluck style and the document will be available on the Facebook for you to add what you will be bringing. We will be grilling out at the West State Street ball field back behind the University Commons and behind Larry's Dawg House (do not worry. It is about a 25 minute walk from campus).

The list of what is being brought so far is as follows:
Hannah Yinger = buns!!
Maddie Stricklin = Homemade Sugar cookies

There are some upcoming events through OU that the club may take a part in - once that is decided, we will update you!

Also, tomorrow night at 7:00 PM at the Memorial Auditorium there will be a Tao: Pheonix Rising Taiko drum concert. It costs $12 for OU Students to get in at the door and it looks to be a great show. Ali and myself will be going so feel free to join us!

See everyone tomorrow at the showing

Election Results and Upcoming Events

Hello everyone and welcome back to Ohio University. Hope everyone had a good spring break and is not hating life too much now that they are back on campus.

This week we had our board member elections for next year. The results are as follows:

President: Samantha Faris
Vice President: Matthew "Scottie" Luhn
Treasurer: Jimmy Bulow
Scribe: Maddie Stricklin
Web Master: Hannah Yinger

Also discussed was a date for the Club Picnic and group photograph. The date suggested right now is April 12th, the Saturday a week before Easter. We are planning for it to be later in the day, around 5:30 PM or around that time.

There is also the possibility of a final Saturday Showing in April as an end of the year get together before the university lets out for Summer.

Note for scheduling: Ohio University has put up their course offerings for the Fall '14 Semester! They were uploaded Monday night. It is not possible for everyone to start looking up classes for the upcoming year!

I will also begin planning the Fall Semester schedule for next year, as per the new requirement of my position.

Enjoy the rest of your week everyone! And see you all on Friday.

Week 7 Meeting Information

Welcome to the week before Spring Break, everyone! If you didn't make it to the meeting today, this is what we went over... ~ Photos from the Saturday social will be posted to the website, but they will be posted to the Facebook with the disclaimer of "tag yourself at your own risk." I will upload them within the week. ~ JCon poker night! We're trying to bring it back ~ "All praise the helix fossil!" is written in the Bentley Hall bathrooms (specifically men's room) ~ The quote "Everyone in this room is white" before someone pointed out that was false - there was one Kuwaiti in the room. Everyone clapped. ~ Friday Social from 6 to 10 PM as a final hangout before everyone heads out for break. Come hang out with us! :) Roundtable: - "Do Dogs Have Brains" from YouTube - "What Are This" from YouTube

Update: February 20, 2014

I waited to update everyone because a lot of the things that we have been doing are all similar in taste from the last few Tuesday meetings. To make it easier on all of you I wanted to update you all at once rather than put it into thirds and make it confusing.

Last week we reviewed what we wanted to change in the Japanese Connection Constitution. Some of the Easter Eggs within it were changed and the idea of moving the size of the board and jobs of each board member were reviewed, as well as a few clauses were added involving "Damn it, Jimmy/Rico" and the calling of a member who has attended for the most years "Uncle". We also thought to add a clause stating that a certain someone cannot play Mario Party unless personally asked to take care of someone who's on a bit of an obnoxious winning streak.

This week we put everything to a vote.

1. Librarian Title has been removed from the Board; Board is now 5 member large
2. Public Relations has been changed to "Scribe" and the duties have been shuffled, removed and added
3. "Damn it, Jimmy" and/or "Damn it, Rico" are to be said when anyone or anything does something wrong
4. Jacob is not allowed to play Mario Party unless the club deems it necessary
5. Vice President is in charge of the Prize Bin
6. Stonecocks is now Ironcocks

Also on the agenda for the week after Spring Break (March 3 through March 7) are elections. So far, the people running for positions are as follows...

President:
  ~ Samantha Faris

Vice President:
  ~ Pancake Syrup [inside joke]
  ~ Matthew Scottie Luhn

Treasurer:
  ~ Alison Smith
  ~ Jimmy Bulow

Scribe:
  ~ Maddie Stricklin
  ~ Ryan Brown

Webmaster:
  ~ Luke Oleksiak
  ~ Hannah Yinger

These are subject to change within the week as people can nominate others at the next Tuesday meeting or they can drop their nomination if they no longer wish to run. Voting will ensue on March 11.

In other news - and to move onto something more exciting - there will be a Saturday Social this weekend (February 22) from 5 to 11. The time ending is more of a question rather than a statement seeing as we usually run over and there are plenty of events planned. It will be held in Morton 235, just like the Friday Showings. The schedule looks something like this:

5-11 in Morton 235

Game Systems @ 5/5:15
   w/ Maddie, Ryan & Jimmy
Psyduck, Psyduck, Slowbro @ 5/5:15
   [During Video game play]
*Online game of Cards Against Humanity may ensue*
Blank vs. Blank @ 6:45 PM
   w/ Luke, Fajer & Ali
Tristan's GlopGlop Fanfic Game @ 8:15
w/ Tristan [and other judges if needed]
Jeopardy @ 10 PM
   w/ Jimmy & Ali
"Spring Break Spectacular" -- After Jeopardy w/ Luke & Jimmy

Console Games will range from a variety of Mario games, Just Dance 4, Black Eyed Peas Experience, and more. Games will be explained upon request if any new people arrive and wish to partake in our shenanigans.

And lastly, a final tally was taken for those who wish to go to Midoricon 2.5 on March 29 and March 30. Hope everyone who goes has a great time!

Long post is long. But no worries. It's over.

Kudos and see you guys Friday.

Today's meeting consisted of many things because of the missed week last week. If you couldn't make it to the meeting, here is a synopsis of what you missed...

Saturday Showing:
Dates were suggested and are as follows:
~ February 22
~ April 12

Other date suggestions? Let us know! Possibility of using both dates is in the air. Updates will be up next week on this idea.

If you drove to Ohayocon, Scotty has money to compensate you. Compensation for parking is still being worked out, so please be patient :)

Discussed at Roundtable:
    - Lego Movie Trailer --> Group to go to the movie is being set up for Sunday at the Athena Grand. Time is 1:30; meet at the theater or

Update for the Day

Hello fellow J-Convicts. Welcome to the hell that is winter - well, at least the worst of it here in Ohio. There is NO meeting tonight due to the fact that Ohio University has closed it's campus for the first time in a few years. Long story short:

What You Missed: Meeting #2

Yesterday we discussed rides and etiquette for Ohayocon. President Sam gave a wonderful presentation about how to act and such. Biggest rules: "Ask the cutie before you touch the booty" and respect the talent at panels and such.

The anime was revealed for the Friday showings. They are as follows:
~ Sympho Gear
~ Space Battle Yamato 2199
~ Tiger & Bunny
~ Basilisk
~ Hellsing OVA
~ Gokaiger (Space Pirate Power Rangers)

Showing schedule will be announced next Friday after Ohayocon!!

In other news, Fajer Boarki will be taking photos if you ask her nicely while at the convention this weekend so please do not hesitate to ask her for a couple shots on your down time!!

The Ohayocon schedule has been posted to the website so those of you who wish it may create an itinerary for yourselves. The ball is Friday night - better get there early if you wish to attend!!

I hope everyone has their cosplays packed away nice, clean and safely, and/or that they are completely finished. I personally have just applied my acrylic nails and am working on their functionality. So far so good!

Driver listings are on the Facebook. Do make sure to remember where you are meeting and who to contact if  you are going to be late and whatnot.

Sorry for the delay and God speed to you all!
Maddie Stricklin
